TKC Emergency Alert
Privacy Policy
Last updated: 25 September 2026TKC Emergency Alert is an internal application provided by The King's College for the sole use of its staff. We take the privacy of our staff seriously and collect only what is necessary for the application to perform its safety function.
Who this applies to
This application is available only to staff of The King's College and requires a College-issued Microsoft account to sign in. It is not offered to the general public.
Information we collect
When you sign in with your College Microsoft account, the application accesses:
- Your name, to confirm your identity within the College.
- Your account identifier, a unique identifier issued by Microsoft Entra that confirms you are an authorised staff member.
This information is used so that only authorised staff can raise an emergency alert, and so that the College can record which account initiated an alert.
How your information is used
- To authenticate you as an authorised member of staff.
- To record the source of an emergency alert for the College's internal safety and audit records.
We do not use your information for advertising, and the application contains no third-party advertising or analytics tracking.
How alerts are handled
When you raise an alert, the application sends the alert type, the time of the request and proof of your College sign-in to a secure College system. The system checks that proof with Microsoft before it acts, then notifies the relevant campus systems and staff. Alert activity is logged within the College's own systems for safety and accountability.
Authentication and security
Sign-in is handled by Microsoft Entra (Azure Active Directory) using the Microsoft Authentication Library. The College does not see or store your password. All communication between the application and College systems uses encrypted connections (HTTPS).
Data sharing and retention
Your information is not sold or shared with third parties. Identity information is provided by Microsoft as part of your existing College account and is governed by the College's broader data handling and Microsoft 365 arrangements. Alert and audit records are retained within College systems in line with the College's record-keeping practices.
Your rights
As the application uses your existing College account, any questions about your personal information, access to it, or its correction can be directed to the College's ICT Services team.
