TKC Emergency Notifications
Privacy Policy
Last updated: 25 September 2026TKC Emergency Notifications is an internal application provided by The King's College for College-owned staff iPads. It receives emergency alerts from the College's emergency alert system and shows them. It cannot raise, change or cancel an alert. We collect only what is needed to deliver an alert to the device.
Who this applies to
The application is installed by the College's device management onto College-owned, supervised iPads used by staff. It is not offered to the general public, and a copy installed any other way does not register and receives nothing.
Information we collect
The application does not ask you to sign in and does not collect your name, email address, location, contacts or anything you do on the iPad. When it starts, it sends the College's emergency alert system:
- A device token, issued by Apple, which lets an alert be delivered to this iPad.
- The iPad's name, as set in the iPad's settings, so ICT can tell which devices are ready to receive alerts.
- The iOS and application versions, so ICT can tell when a device needs updating.
If an iPad's name includes a person's name, that name is stored with the device record.
How your information is used
- To deliver emergency alerts, drill notices, system test notices and All Clear messages to the iPad.
- To let ICT see which College iPads would receive an alert, and fix any that would not.
We do not use this information for anything else. The application contains no advertising and no analytics or tracking.
How alerts reach the iPad
Alerts are delivered through Apple Push Notification service, the standard way iPad apps receive notifications. For the four emergency responses the College uses Apple's Critical Alerts, which sound even when the iPad is muted. Alerts expire after about fifteen minutes, so an iPad that was switched off is not shown an old alert when it turns back on. The most recent alerts are kept on the iPad itself so they can be shown in the app.
Data sharing and retention
The device record is kept in the College's own systems and is not sold or shared with third parties. Apple handles the device token as part of delivering notifications. A device record is deleted when Apple reports the token is no longer valid, or when the iPad has not checked in for 60 days.
